Anti-Bullying Week

With the rapid rise of digital technologies and social media platforms, cyberbullying has unfortunately increased at an alarming rate.

Younger children now have access to various digital platforms. Without proper awareness of the positive and negative sides of the digital world, the consequences can be harmful.

For parents, it has become essential to stay informed about emerging social networking apps, websites, and online trends.

Here are some helpful tips for parents to prevent and address cyberbullying:

  • Communication is key
Build a strong and trusting relationship with your children. Encourage them to talk openly about anything they face online or in real life.
  • Teach your children about the harms of bullying
Sometimes, children may not realise how hurtful their actions can be. Help them understand the impact of cyberbullying and the importance of respecting everyone’s differences.
  • Monitor your child’s behaviour and online usage
If your child is being bullied, stay calm. Advise them not to respond to hurtful messages or posts. Reassure them that it is not their fault and help find a safe solution.
  • Reach out to your school’s guidance counsellors
If your child experiences any form of bullying, it is important to report it to school leaders so they can offer proper support and take action.
  • Avoid threatening to take away devices
This may cause children to hide their online behaviour. Instead, encourage offline activities that will boost their confidence and help them feel supported.
